The relationship between a hermit crab and a shell is that thy are mutualism.
You must always have a spare larger shell for a hermit crab as they have no natural shell of their own. Just place a larger shell in the tank and if the crab does not use it straight away, don't worry, it eventually will do as they need larger ones as they grow.
A shell protects a hermit crab.
Hermit crabs need a shell because inside of the their shell is their soft tail or body. It needs it's shell because other hermit crabs can hurt or damage their tail or body that's inside of the shell. Hermit crabs will always be in a shell. The only time when they aren't in a shell is that quick few seconds when they change shells into a bigger one to grow. If your hermit crab is running around without it's shells there is something wrong with your crab. A hermit crab and a snail have a symbiotic relationship where the hermit crab uses the empty shell of the snail as its protective home. The hermit crab benefits from the shelter provided by the snail's abandoned shell, while the snail is unaffected by this interaction as it has already vacated the shell. This relationship is an example of commensalism, where one organism benefits while the other is neither harmed nor helped.
the hermit crab attaches the anemone to its shell as protection from the big fish with the sharp teeth and octopuses and squids and you know what else is a hermitcrab YOUR MOTHERR:P
Your hermit crab cam go fast depending on the whieght of the shell on the hermit crab. If the shell is light the speed of the crab will increase, if the shell is heavy on the crab the speed will decrease.
