All living things reproduce (all species reproduce; not all individual members of a species necessarily reproduce, nonetheless, reproduction is a central characteristic of life), they have a metabolism of some kind (which uses energy), and they are all part of the process of Darwinian evolution. If those are not enough I will add that all life as we know it is based upon the chemistry of the carbon atom (hence, we are "carbon based life forms" as was often said on Star Trek).
