The Tasadai people are native to the island of Mindanao, in the southern Philippines. This tribe's bona fides has been the subject of some controversy after their initial "discovery" in the 1970's in a remote mountain valley living a stone age existance. Their alleged gentle nature was played up by the Marcos regime, which also barred scholars from accessing them. Some people alleged that the tribe's discovery was a sham; that they simply were poor people putting on a "show" for outsiders. Today, however, most scholars do recognize the tasadai as a tribe. Their life has changed considerably in the past 30 years as they have been integrated into the Philippine culture.
