Also if it´s from the Europe or from USA. the number of the hallmark usually refer either on the karat value of the precious metal, but since your number is that large, I do not think your item is 916 karats whatever it is. it could be 9.16, though. I believe the 916 refers to the location. Is that the entire hallmark of your item, does it say anything else?

I suggest you take your item to a jewelry/watchsmith and ask him to look.
