Game birds and Songbirds both eat bluegrass. These birds include the grand prairie chicken and the wild turkeys. These birds prefer the seeds of the bluegrass over seeds from other grasses.
Other animals that eat bluegrass are cattle, sheep, goats, grasshoppers, horses, donkeys, mules, deer (occaisonally), elk (if available), bison, and other herbivorous grazers.

The grassland around Lexington is called Bluegrass because of the bluish tint of the grass when it produces seed heads in the spring. This tint gives the grassland a blue hue, which led to it being named "Bluegrass."

Kentucky's nickname is The Bluegrass State, because of its bluegrass . Not all grass in Kentucky is bluegrass. Bluegrass grows heavily in the central part of the state, and becomes more sparse in the further areas. When you're in an area where all the grass is bluegrass, you can't tell that it's bluegrass, because it really is green. But - in parts of the state where the bluegrass is more sparse, you can look out over a grass-covered area and notice that certain patches have a blue-ish tint.
