What are lime sticks used to trap birds?

It's just a branch covered with something like a glue and placed somewhere a bird is likely to land. The bird's feet stick to the branch, much like a fly to flypaper and can be collected later by the hunter. There's no lime on or in a lime stick.

What kinds of bugs do the blue jay eat?

Blue Jays glean insects (whatever is moving) and take nuts and seeds in trees, shrubs, and on the ground; they also eat grains. They also take dead and injured small vertebrates. Blue Jays sometimes raid nests for eggs and nestlings, and sometimes pick up dead or dying adult birds. Stomach contents over the year are about 22 percent insect. Acorns, nuts, fruits, and grains made up almost the entire remainder. Of 530 stomachs examined, traces of bird eggs and nestlings were found in only 6 stomachs, although a search was specially made for every possible trace of bird remains. Blue Jays hold food items in feet while pecking them open. They store food in caches to eat later.

What kind of food do black capped chickadees eat?

The diet of a black capped chickadee will vary from season to season.

In the summer Insects form a large part of their diet. Seeds and berries tend to become more important in the winter months, although insect eggs and pupae are also eaten if found.

They will also eat seeds, such as black oil sunflower seeds, from bird feeders any time during the year, although their dependency tends to increase during colder weather when food because more scarce.

They will also cache food, including seeds and even insects, in bark, dead leaves, knotholes in trees, so they can consume the food later. They can remember the location of these caches for up to 28 days after creating them.

What eats mockingbirds?

some predators include snakes, owls and hawks.
Any bird of prey such as an owl or hawk would eat a mockingbird. Falcons also would, especially a Merlin or kestrel. And I have even seen a Loggerhead Shrike eat a mockingbird. House cats, dogs, raccoons, and snakes would also gladly eat mockingbirds.

How do you hand tame a zebra finch?

Start off by spending a lot of time near the birds. Just reading or watching tv next to their cage will work. When the birds no longer mind your being there you can move onto the next stage. Put your hand in the cage and just keep it there without moving it. Make sure the door is not so wide that they can escape. Your finches will probably be really nervous at first, but after a while, they will accept your hand and no longer view it as a threat. Just don't move it towards them! Once the finches remain calm when you put your hand in the cage, put their favorite treat on your hand. Millet spray works well for most birds. I had two birds, so I held the millet with my middle, ring, and pinkie finger, leaving the index and thumb for them to sit on. Once you start this step, it is best to not offer the treat unless it is on your hand. Eventually they will come just for the food. Keep at this until they jump on your hand within seconds of it coming into their cage. Then you can start giving them the treats after they come onto your hand.

I had two zebra finches when I was a kid and hand tamed them before anyone told me they couldn't be. They will not act like a parrot, but will eagerly come to your hand. My finches couldn't wait to get on my hand when they saw it and would let me scratch their heads sometimes. This is also a very useful trick if they get out of their cage since they will come right back to your hand.

What can you feed a baby robin?

i found a baby Robbin and its wings were hurt badly so i found it a cage and a nest and put it in the cage. Make sure to cover out side the cage with thin curtain so that the robbin will feel safe. This goes for all birds. I dug some worms and as soon as it opened its mouth i put it in. DO NOT FORCE IT DOWN. Now in a couple of weeks i am going to free it!! It is looking healthy now.

Just a note..You do not have to leave your baby robin outside..They can eat wet dog food or worms or even scrambled eggs. I gave mine some wet cherrios because it's whole grain and he needed a drink. Often parent robins will have a worm, some greens and other stuff to feed the babies.. They need fiber too..and high protein..

I read an article that allowed the baby outside play times..monitored of course..eventually..baby flew away and would not come back..this is the desired outcome..Just pick a safe release/play area. It is important to allow baby to take and swallow the offering on his/her own.
