As a child fishing off rock platforms with my family at Airey's Inlet in Victoria in the 1960s and 70s, Thais Orbita was our preferred bait for small local fish including the parrot fish (wrasse) which we referred to as 'rockies', sweep and leatherjackets. However, we removed the flesh from the shell for this purpose; it may be that the fish would not naturally be able to do this without our intervention.
