No, genes are not responsible for AIDS. the retro virus HIV or human immuno deficiency virus has a pair of 'RNA' (ribose nuclic acid) strands which, when the virus get attached to the 'T helper cells' (the first line of defence), enter in the cell, and get attached to the DNA of the cell & make the DNA function according to the will of the Virus, contradicting to the cells own function. the cell then insted of making its own copies, starts making the copies of the Virus. That is, it starts RNA replication insted of DNA replication. Even though human Genes contain DNA, it is not responsible for AIDS & the RNA which is the 'gene' of the Virus is responsible for it.

No such gene is known. However some people can indeed postpone onset of symptoms much longer than others.

It had been shown statistically that people from Europe and certain other areas once devastated by the Black Death (Plague) are in this group that resists the conversion of an HIV infection to full AIDS much longer than people where the Black Death was usually rare. So it has been speculated that the genes for antibodies that fight Plague can also fight HIV, but exactly which alleles are responsible is unknown.

However nothing known prevents an HIV infection from eventually converting to full AIDS, it only postpones this fatal event.

Individuals with a mutated form of the CCR5 gene, known as CCR5 delta 32 mutation, are more resistant to HIV infection. This mutation is found in a small percentage of the population and can reduce the risk of contracting HIV.

There is no such gene yet known to prevent HIV. We have to avoid blood or any other body fluid contact from an infected individual. Safe sex is a major mode of prevention.
