Armageddon is the term used to describe the end of life on Earth. Another term used to describe it is apocalypse. An armageddon is an event which will either destroy Earth or wipe out all life. For example, an asteroid hitting Earth or a virus wiping out mankind.

In the movie starring Bruce Willis:

An asteroid is heading towards Earth. It is up to Bruce and his team of misfit astronauts to save the world by blowing up the asteroid before it hits Earth.

Spoiler alert: Bruce dies.

Unrealistically (no evidence to support it) according to New Testament:

In New Testament, the Armageddon is described as a battle between good and evil. Angels vs demons. There's no evidence that either exist (if it's true because it's written in a book, then by that logic Harry Potter is true too). Such an event already exists in real life between humans - Democracy versus terrorism.
