Ozone is a isotope of oxygen having three atoms of oxygen. In the stratosphere when the UV rays reach from sun then it reacts with O2 molecule and breaks it into two monoatoms of oxygen which combine with another O2 molecule forming O3 respectively but since O3 is unstable hence it again breaks into O2 and the whole process continues.

What gas molecule found in Earths atmosphere is made up of three oxygen atoms?

The gas molecule is ozone (O3). It is formed when oxygen (O2) molecules are split apart by ultraviolet radiation in the upper atmosphere and then recombine to form ozone. Ozone helps to protect Earth from harmful ultraviolet radiation from the sun.

How thunder helps our ozone layer?

Yes thunder makes ozone. It is because when thunder passes through oxygen due to electrical discharge the oxygen molecules disintegrate and thus form nascent ozygen which on reaction with oxygen molecule form ozone. This process is used in the formation of artificial ozone in an ozoniser. The pleasant smell during lightning is of the formation of ozone.
