In medical terms, the Achilles tendon is the tendon in the lower leg that connects the lower leg muscles, in particular the calf muscle, to the ankle. If struck hard enough it can strain or break and incapacite someone for many weeks.

It's used also as a term to describe a critical weakness in something that may otherwise be well protected, such as an armys defence, or a company that may be competing with yours for example.
