OSHA and the NEC both mandate a minimum clearance of 36 inches on panels of less than 600 volts and less that 65,000 symetrical fault amps.

Panels operating at higher voltages or electrical distribution systems capable of generating higher fault currents require more clearance.

What is the distance needed from an electrical panel to the edge of a roof?

There is no specific distance specified in the code book. The meter stack has to be on the outside of the building and some times this means bringing it through the eave end of the roof line. The connection point has to be 15 feet high as a minimum. The utility meter has to be at head height on the outside wall for the meter reader to see and read it. On the lower end of the meter stack is the electrical panel. As you can see the distances will change in every circumstance depending on where the electrical panel is placed. The electrical panel can not be placed any further in the building from the outside wall than ten feet.

What are the required for electrical panel?

HOW FAR APART IS THE REQUIRED DISTANCE BETWEEN A BIG ELECTRICAL BOX AND CAR?

The code requires a distance of 1 metre radius from the centre to the panel. This distance is established so that maintenance can be done on the distribution panel. Without this distance being maintained it becomes a safety issue and work on the panel by a tradesman could be refused until the distance is cleared.

How many grounding rods are needed for 200 amp service?

It depends on where the sub panel is situated. If the panel is under the same roof as the main distribution panel then no ground rods are needed on the sub panel. If the sub panel is in a different building then a ground rod might be needed. There has been an electrical code rule change on this subject. Check with your local electrical inspector before installation so that it is done correctly.
