Genetic material in all eukaryotic cells, i.e. the type of cell that makes up all plants and animals, is made up of DNA, or deoxyribonucleic acid. The main part of DNA which actual holds the genetic code is made of bases. These bases are adenine, thymine, cytosine and guanine. In your DNA is a sequence of these bases that represent a binary code in your body, similar to that of a computer, which can be read in order to create any type of cell your body needs to create.

Each base in this code is held together by what is called a nucleotide. Each nucleotide holds one base, and the nucleotides are connected to each other in a double helix, or double spiral.

Hope this was clear.

What is genetic material contained in an individual?

Genetic material in an individual is composed of DNA molecules found in the cell's nucleus that carry genetic instructions. These instructions determine an individual's traits and characteristics. DNA is passed from parents to offspring and is responsible for variations in species.
