Right now, flares and prominences cannot be be predicted, except in the most general way; sunspots with a complex magnetic field are more likely to spawn substantial flares.
Its kind of like you knowing how a football is likely to swing into a curve and smash the goal net. You don't right. If you do it takes practice. Unless we have high definition 3D picture of the sun, we would only know some 3-4% about its mystery.
But ancient cultures knew about these events from before. They even predicted it.That is again a mystery.
One solar flare is equivalent to billions of hydrogen bombs exploding simultaneously. Solar flares release massive amounts of energy in the form of electromagnetic radiation, particles, and matter ejected into space.
In March of 1989 a large sunspot appeared and it then sent off a huge solar flare. A few days later a second solar flare erupted. This one came towards Earth and created spectacular Aurora Borealis sightings and created major electrical problems in Canada.
The Greek philosopher Thales of Miletus is credited with predicting a solar eclipse in 585 BC. He is considered one of the earliest known individuals to have made such a prediction based on his understanding of astronomy and mathematics.
Solar flares themselves do not cause skin cancer directly. However, solar flare events can increase the ultraviolet radiation that reaches the Earth's surface, leading to a higher risk of skin damage and potential risk of skin cancer if adequate sun protection measures are not taken.
Solar flares are magnetic storms on the sun which produce high levels of radiation and charged particles. These can temporarily intensify the solar wind, which can interfere with satellites and radio transmissions on earth.Solar flares include the sun.Thats why its called solar because solar means sun or light.A solar flare is an eruption of plasma from the Sun's surface. It is the result of a magnetic field line of the sun twisting (since plasma is made of electrically charged particles). Eventually it gets too tight and snaps back into place; the flares are the paths that plasma take over the magnetic field line.See the related link for more info
This is called a solar flare. Let's hope we don't run into one as it will shut down the electronics of the world. http://www.weather.com/science/space/news/solar-storm-1859-less-than-day-to-prepare-global-disruption-impact

A solar flare is one kind of solar eruption that occurs on the sun's surface. It releases intense bursts of energy, light, and high-energy particles into space. Solar flares can impact Earth's ionosphere and disrupt communication and navigation systems.

A giant solar flare could cause disruptions to communication networks, power grids, and satellite technology on Earth. The increased radiation exposure during a solar flare event could pose risks to astronauts in space, but on Earth, the effects on human health are minimal due to the protection of our atmosphere.
No. There will be solar flares in 2012 - there are flares every year, even the last couple of years during the depth of the deepest solar minimum in the last century - but solar flares do not "attack the Earth". It is possible that a massive solar flare could cause communications outages, or damage satellites, or cause spectacular auroras - but that could happen ANY time. There were a few satellites damaged by solar flares during the last solar max, in 2002, but the doom-sayers were wrong about that one, too.
A solar flare can disrupt communication systems, navigation systems, and power grids on Earth. It can also increase radiation levels at high altitudes, affecting satellite operations and posing a risk to astronauts.
Well hello there, just remember to breathe deeply, and let's talk about solar flares! These beautiful bursts of light can indeed cause some disruptions to electronics here on Earth. But don't worry, dear friend, scientists are keeping a close eye on our star so that we can better understand and prepare for these natural occurrences. And remember, we can always create beautiful things from the challenges nature presents us.

We can not really know one hundred percent, persay, but think about it....depending on what religion you are, solar storms could have great significance to your end of the world predictions. If you are christian, doesn't the bible say, 'And fire shall rain from the heavens?" perhaps this is figuratively speaking of a solar storm. WHo knows? Frankly, if solar storms are what kill us, at least it will be a quick, uneventful death. Like fried chicken. Yum.
There are several companies that make flare guns, such as 'Hebel'. Alternatively, one might try the brands 'Wolseley', 'Webley' or 'Berridge' for flare guns.
