The theory of plate tectonics was developed through the contributions of several scientists, including Alfred Wegener, who proposed the theory of continental drift in the early 20th century. Later research by Harry Hess and Robert Dietz provided evidence for seafloor spreading, leading to the development of the modern plate tectonics theory in the 1960s.
The theory of continental drift was proposed by Alfred Wegener, a German meteorologist and geophysicist, in the early 20th century. While Wegener did not prove continental drift definitively during his lifetime, his theory laid the foundation for the modern theory of plate tectonics. The definitive proof of plate tectonics came from advancements in seafloor mapping and paleomagnetism in the mid-20th century, which provided strong evidence for the movement of Earth's lithosphere.
The discovery of ocean floor spreading provided evidence for plate tectonics theory, showing that the Earth's crust is continuously moving and renewing itself. It revolutionized our understanding of Earth's geology and helped explain phenomena like earthquakes, volcanoes, and mountain formation.
Several evidences were given as proof to the theory of continental drift, they include; 1. Climatic evidence (Paleoclimatic Reconstruction). 2. Fossil evidence (Paleontological proof). 3. Continental fit. (Continental margin shapes). 4. Lithological and Stratigrapical similarities of adjacent continental masses. 5. Seafloor spreading. 6. Glacial till. 7. Plate tectonics.
the proof is that the continents fit together as a puzzle and they were once joined as a super continent known as Pangaea and because of plate tectonics they drifted away, Go see the Continental drift theory

In science, a theory is something that is not fully proven, but has strong supporting evidence. Some common theories that are well known, and seen by most people as fact include; Evolution, Plate Tectonics, and Gravity. All three of these have enough evidence to be scientifically sound, but we have not yet given 100% proof to turn them from scientific theory into scientific law.

Earthquakes, mineral deposits, plate subduction areas/volcanoes, mountains... most anything you can think of is proof really. The above are evidences of plate tectonics. In addition, precise measurements of plate movements have been recorded with scientific instruments that track their speed and direction.

When plates in a certain continent move, then that continent moves.you can't tell when a continent moves in only a year because the plates in a continent only move an inch or two a year.
People initially did not believe Alfred Wegener's continental drift theory because he lacked a mechanism to explain how continents could move across the Earth's surface. Additionally, there was insufficient evidence at the time to support his theory. It was not until the development of the theory of plate tectonics in the 1960s that Wegener's ideas gained widespread acceptance.
