What is the different between the oxygen we breath and the ozone?

The Oxygen we breath is a "diatomic" molecule comprising 2 Oxygen atoms - O2. This paring provides a lower energy state than a single Oxygen atom on its own. Ozone is made in the upper atmosphere whe Ultraviolet light form the Sun breaks apart and O2 pair and the two free Oxygen atoms then latch on to another pair of Oxygen atoms to make a molecule comprising 3 Oxygen atoms (O3). O3 is more stable (lower energy state than a single Oxygen atom) but still not as stable as O2. When it can O3 will release its extra Oxygen to revert to O2 and this spare Oxygen atom is therefore available to oxidize things so O3 is corrosive.
