As you know, this answer is extremely indeterminable based on the many factors that are in play. Source of heat for appliances, preferences for temperature, amount of laundry, use of blinds/curtains, and energy efficiency all come into play. That being said, I have a six bedroom home with two stories plus a finished basement (we hardly ever use the basement and one of the 6 rooms is vacant and kept closed. I can tell you what I paid in July 2012 to give you general idea of what your maximum bill could be (variance is expected by state).
My bill was $250 for this month, covering 2,930 kWh. This is a very high amount for most people so I will cover the attributes of my family so you can get an idea of what my usage is fueling.
-Electric dryer
-Electric stove/oven
-Central heating/air (in this case it was air) (which we generally kept at or below 75 degrees F)
-5 residents in the home with daily showers
-Daily usage of dishwasher
-All vents/registers on 2nd and 3rd floor are closed
-All blinds/curtains are closed
-2 car garage that is frequently left open (darn husband!)
-We do have additional appliances but they are always ran on electric and not available in gas (i.e. Fridge, Television)
Considering that we broke the state record this year in temperature in Indiana, I am sure that it is not the real "average" but we just moved into the home so I can't base it on anything else. I actually consider this to be a good bill, we were stationed in Hawaii a few years ago and paid $350 a month for a three bedroom cottage!
