First of all to correct your spelling. of 'What is the continet of Austraillia?'

It should read 'What is the continent of Australia?'

The word 'Australia' comes from Latin and means 'South/Southern'.

Casually Australia is both an continent and a nation.

As continent it is a tectonic plate which has detached from Antarctica and is moving North/North Eastwards, into the Eastern part of Indonesia. The mountains in Papua New Guinea (PNG) are the northern plate boundary. They are being 'pushed up' as a result of the Australian plate moving north into the Indonesian plates.

As a nation it's formal title is 'The Commonwealth of Australia'. The capital city is 'Canberra' ; NEITHER Sydney nor Melbourne. It is a western style constitutional monarchy. King Charles(III) of the UK is the Head of State. There are some 20 million people in the country. The nation is divided into states and territories. viz. Australian Capital Territory(ACT), New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia, Western Australia , and Tasmania. The principle territory is the Northern Territory (North Australia), also Norfolk Island , and Nauru. .
