It has had a record high of 110 degrees F but that is the exception. Regarding the weather most people say that its not the heat but the humidity.

The central and entire eastern part of the state have a humid subtropical climate and it gets pretty brutal in the summer. The humidity sucks, it gets really really humid. I had a couple friends visit from central Georgia and they both said they though the humidity was worse here. This year its been so muggy/humid you couldn't really see the Blue Ridge Mountains. Anything west of the Blue Ridge isn't quite as bad, it does it get hot, but its not as bad. The climate also changes to a Humid Continental in the mountains so.....That is my 2 cents on the weather in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
