How do you reduce neutral to earth voltage in three phase system?

It is done by connecting the neutral to earth at the transformer that produces the three-phase supply. If the three phase wire supply equal currents, there is no current in the neutral wire and its whole length stays at earth potential, but if there is current in the neutral it produces a small voltage on the neutral at places away from the transformer.

What would cause 5 volts to be sensed at water supply pipe?

The water pipe is not properly grounded AND there is a ground fault or neutral imbalance in the house. Alternatively, there could be a neutral problem. In an ideally balanced house, the current on one hot leg balances the current on the other. This means that there is no current on neutral. In practice, there is some imbalance, and that common mode current does flow on neutral. If a circuit has a ground fault, the current return for that circuit is on ground, instead of neutral. That is wrong, and must be corrected. However - neutral and ground ARE connected together at the distribution panel. They are also connected at the street, so imbalance current could flow through ground instead of neutral. How much voltage is dependent on how much impedance. If there is a voltage at the house ground, and no ground fault or major imbalance, it calls into question the adequacy of the ground path, however, it is also possible that neutral is open, causing the imbalance current to flow through ground alone.

Ways to solve unbalanced wye connection?

To balance a wye system you have to find the wattage connected to each breaker on each of the three phase legs. Total the wattages of the three individual phases legs. The difference in wattage is the unbalanced load. Then is is just a matter of deciding which breaker load should be moved to another leg to try and make all three legs as equal as possible. Working with an off and on again load wattage is sometimes hard to do because at certain times some of the loads will not be on. You should be able to get close but never right on. The only time you will ever get a completely balanced load is if the load is three phase resistance heating.

Why would a 1994 Mercury Topaz only start with the transmission in the neutral position?

This could indicate an issue with the neutral safety switch, which prevents the engine from starting unless the transmission is in either Park or Neutral. The switch may be malfunctioning or misaligned, causing the car to only start in Neutral. It is recommended to have the neutral safety switch checked and potentially replaced by a professional mechanic.

With machine in neutral neutral light doesn't come on and electric start don't work?

Switch for neutral broken or not in correctly. It may operate a relay. Find it and see if it comes on and off with you switching the machine out of neutral and back. If it is fused check that. You can put your meter across the open fuse and watch the meter as you switch.

How does a neutral safety switch work?

A neutral safety switch works by comparing the current in both the active and neutral conductors. When the current in both the active and neutral conductors is not equal the safety switch will trip. This works on the principle that the active and neutral are part of a closed loop and if there is an inbalance then current must be leaking out of the circuit. This leaking could be caused by faulty wiring, moisture (particularly in unused heating elements) or by contact from human or animal (ouchy)

Probably the neutral safety switch, either faulty or out of adjustment.

Many reasons, but a common one is a faulty neutral safety switch, try starting it in neutral.

Will the neutral safety switch not let your car start?

If it is faulty or not adjusted correctly, yes.

Faulty wiring, faulty ignition switch, or possibly a faulty neutral safety switch.

There is no reset. If faulty it must be replaced.

I changed the transmission fluid in my 94 ford explorer now won't start What could be the problem?

Try to start it on neutral. if it stars then you have a faulty neutral safety switch.

How do you know if you have a faulty battery or a faulty alternator?

A quick test I've always used is to start the car. Remove the neutral cable from the battery. If the car still runs your alternator is fine.
