Introduction:- In the mid of the 20th century many know species like predatory fish such as Swordfish and Sharks or birds like Osprey and Eagles, even the Crop Plants became extinct & some have been banned to be taken as food by National Governments due to the presence of high concentration of substances, such as Pesticide, DDT (dichloro diphenyl trichloro ethane), POPs (Persistent Organic Pollutants), PCBs(polychlorinated biphenyls), Toxaphene, Monomethylmercury & Inorganic Metals like Arsenic, Cadmium, Mercury Etc.,.

"These substances which cause changes in the ecological balance are termed as Biomagnifiers & the phenomenon is called the Biomagnification."

The biomagnifiers contain lipophilic substances & Organic metals which do not degrade in the body but they persist & keep on carrying to next tropical levels by the Predation mechanism.

Reason & Side effects:-

· Swordfish is famous for 'Sea Food' but, "The United States Food and Drug Administration"warns about potential toxicity from high levels of 'Methylmercury' in Swordfish. On more consumption, the pregnant ladies may abort the babies or may give premature delivery.

· Bald Eagles is 'National bird of United States', which has been near extinct due to the involvement of the DDT in the Calcium metabolism during Egg formation (causing production of shell less eggs).

· In Humans, these biomagnifiers causes Genotoxicity and Endocrine disruption and DNA adducts, Chronic toxicity,Diabetes, & Xenoestrogenic activity

On detailed test it was found that every Human of U.S contains these biomagnifiers in body especially the DDT. So, U.S had banned the use of DDT since 1972 but still today DDT is being used in India & also it stood first in consumptions list of the World.

Summary:- The Industrial Revolution is boon to the Humans but became curse to many of the species by removing their signature from the World.

Conclusion:- Use of Biofertilizer, Biopesticides, Organic Farmed Foods, Renewable resource, etc.,. Safe for Health and Mankind rather than the other market food.

no

What is biomagnification of pesticides?

Biomagnification of pesticides basically means that the concentration of the substance exceeds what it should be. This makes the pesticide more powerful and harmful.

How do you prevent biomagnification?

The easiest way to prevent biomagnification would be to cut down or better yet eliminate our pollutants so they cant transfer.

How to prevent biomagnification?

Biomagnification is the increase in pollutants from the environment from one consumer to the next. To avoid this, educate yourself on the diet and living conditions of the food you are eating.

In the food chain, where would mercury levels be highest as a result of biomagnification?

Mercury levels would be highest at the top of the food chain due to biomagnification.

The process by which non-biodegradable pollutants become more concentrated near the top of a food chain is called?

The tendency of chemicals to become more concentrated as they move up the food chain is known

How can you stop biomagnification?

Decrease reliance on harmful pesticides.

How can biomagnification affect tertiary levels?

by killing organisms

Why biomagnification is important?

Biomagnification is important because it can lead to higher concentrations of harmful substances in organisms higher up the food chain. This poses a risk to top predators and can have detrimental effects on ecosystems. Monitoring biomagnification helps us understand how pollutants move through food webs and can inform conservation efforts.

Why can't you have biomagnification with bioaccumulation?

Biomagnification and bioaccumulation are related but distinct processes. Bioaccumulation refers to the accumulation of substances, such as toxins, in an organism over time, primarily through its diet and environment. Biomagnification, on the other hand, occurs when these toxins become increasingly concentrated as they move up the food chain. Therefore, you can have bioaccumulation in individual organisms, but for biomagnification to occur, there must be a transfer of accumulated toxins from one trophic level to another, leading to higher concentrations in predators.

What are the remedial measures of biomagnification?

Remedial measures for biomagnification primarily focus on reducing the release of harmful substances into the environment. This can be achieved through stricter regulations on pollutants, promoting sustainable agricultural and industrial practices, and improving waste management systems. Additionally, public awareness campaigns can educate communities about the risks of biomagnification and encourage responsible consumption of contaminated resources. Restoration of affected ecosystems and monitoring of food webs can also help mitigate the impacts of biomagnification over time.

What term is used to describe poisons that accumulate in the food chain?
