The microwave as a cooking instrument does nothing to change the nutritional value of food that isn't changed by cooking using another method. Microwaves themselves don't affect food's "worth" but the heat generated can make some modifications. It's the heat and not the heat source that may be liable for changing food's nutritional value. There is a solid group of folks who decry cooking as "damaging" to food and eat everything raw. For the rest of us, there is good news. Cooking doesn't strip food of all its nutritional value. Yes, some things are broken down during cooking (due to heat and not at all to the microwaves themselves). High heat and overcooking will take things (like water soluble proteins) out of food, but not all of them. Can the dish take a 20% cut in some of these more heat sensitive nutrients? And what is a cook doing overcooking stuff? Managing the addition of ingredients so that tender vegetables are added last and cooked gently is part of good cooking practice. Oh, and let's not forget that there are some foods that actually increase in nutritional value when prepared by cooking. Cooking breaks down some food in ways that our body can't or doesn't have time to do. No offense to the all-raw-food-all-the-time crowd, but their bodies are not getting to some things that are available to the rest of us. In fairness to the no-cooking types, we should be eating a good serving of raw vegetables regularly. No wise person or nutritionist would ever suggest anything different. Regardless of your food and food preparation choices, best wishes. Bon appétit!

Why are there hot spots in food cooked in microwaves?

Because microwaves work by rotating electrons which causes heat. As microwave is a waveform it is subject to reflecting off surfaces which means it hits your food and rotates the electrons to heat up the food it touches but doesn't always heat up the stuff on the bottom. That is why you normally take it out half way and mix it around a bit.

Which element in the microwave heats the food and is it good for your health to eat food made in a microwave?

Microwave ovens have a "part" or device inside them called a magnetron. The magnetron is a microwave generator, and when we energize it, it generates electromagnetic waves at fairly high power (several hundred watts) and at a microwave frequency (about 2450 megaHertz). The non-ionizing electromagnetic waves or rays generated by the magnetron cause the bonds between hydrogen and oxygen atoms in water molecules to "vibrate" sympathetically with the microwave radiation. The result is that the water molecule is "given energy" by the microwave, and this energy is expressed as "vibration" of the water molecule. It is thermal, or heat energy, and the oven heats/cooks food by heating the water in the food using microwave electromagnetic energy. As stated, this radiation is non-ionizing radiation, and it will not "harm" the food, per se. Normally heated or cooked food that is put thorugh a microwave oven is safe to eat. You will not suffer any ill effects because of something the microwave oven did to the food item(s). Note that the oven can burn food, and burnt food has some toxins in it.

Technology used to produce plants with better nutritional content?

Genetic engineering techniques like gene editing can be used to produce plants with enhanced nutritional content. For example, scientists can modify crops to have higher levels of essential nutrients like vitamins, minerals, or proteins. This technology has the potential to address malnutrition and food insecurity worldwide.

Overcooking a food is least likely to affect?

The texture of the food is least likely to be affected by overcooking, as it tends to become more uniformly soft and mushy. However, the nutritional content, flavor, and appearance of the food can be significantly impacted by overcooking.

What is the difference between microwave and stove cooked food?

Microwave energy is electromagnetic (EM) radiation, and microwave ovens use energy at a frequency of about 2450 MHz (2,450 million cycles per second). This energy is in the microwave band of frequencies, hence the term microwave oven. The frequency is a good choice, because it is quite effective in causing dielectric heating in molecules in the food. This is because there are a lot of molecules within the food that will respond to the microwave energy. These molecules, because they have an electric dipole, will attempt to align themselves with the passing electromagnetic wave. They will be trying to turn back and forth at that 2450 MHz, and this generates heat, which warms/cooks the food.

Is cooking food is reversible or irreversible?

Cooking food is an irreversible process. When food is cooked, chemical and physical changes occur that alter the structure, flavor, and nutritional content of the ingredients, making it impossible to return the food to its original raw state.

Are microwave cooked foods dangerous?

Not at all. Food cooked in the microwave does not contain any microwave radiation. However, you could burn your mouth if, for example, you heat a danish in the microwave and bite into it too soon as the bready outer part can seem cool enough to eat while the filling is still dangerously hot. But on the other hand microwave use the same wave lengths as xrays and such and could possibly harm you depending on the age of the microwave.
