i think what would preserve the ice block from melting is to try and just try different things in order to keep the ice from melting like maybe putting the ice in the deep freezer where it can stay frozen for a couple of days.

How does salt preserve ice?

Salt lowers the freezing point of water, causing ice to melt. This melting process requires energy, which is taken from the surrounding environment, making the ice colder and slowing down the melting process. This helps preserve the ice by keeping it frozen for longer.

Melting of a block of ice is open system or closed system?

close system

A block of ice is left in the sun what is that process called?

The process of a block of ice turning into water when left in the sun is called melting. The heat energy from the sun causes the ice to absorb energy, which raises its temperature and causes the solid ice to turn into a liquid.

What do you need to know to calculate the heat needed to melt a block of ice at its melting point?

To calculate the heat needed to melt a block of ice at its melting point, you need to know the mass of the ice block, the specific heat capacity of ice, and the heat of fusion of ice (or latent heat of fusion). The formula to calculate this heat is Q = m * ΔHf, where Q is the heat energy, m is the mass, and ΔHf is the heat of fusion.

What is a commonly used for melting ice?

Heat.

Why does ice melting in your drink make your drink cooler?

Melting requires energy: the heat energy in your drink is used to melt the ice.

Why does an ice block melt when left out in open?

An ice block melts when left out in the open because it absorbs heat from the surrounding environment, causing its temperature to rise above freezing point. As a result, the ice block changes from a solid state to a liquid state, resulting in melting.

What happens to the motion of the particles in a block of ice at it finishes melting?

As a block of ice finishes melting, the particles gain enough energy to break the bonds holding them in place. This increased energy causes the particles to move more freely, transitioning from a solid to a liquid state.

Why is sand not as fast at melting ice as salt?

Sand isn't used for melting snow. Sand is used for traction.

What does melting ice do?

Melting ice turns the ice into water.

What local materials will keep ice from melting fast?

Anything that dissolves in water. Usually salt is used. <><><> Salt makes ice melt faster- question was keep from melting. Materials that insulate ice from air or water around it. Leaves, pine needles, and sawdust will allow ice to stay cold and unmelted.

Is the melting point of a substance is the same as it's surroundings?

no this would depend on the atoms of the substance. for example if you have a block of ice and a block of butterthe block of ice would melt faster because its atoms move more faster to heat than butter does
