How do you install plastic hinge for Volvo gas tank cover part number 31265160?

Volvo's fuel door hinge is secured to the body by four expanding rivets allowing blind installation and removal (that is to say, without requiring access to the inside of the quarter panel.) Remove the old hinge by punching out the four rivet expander pins with a long, slender punch. (The approximately 1/8" expander pins aren't easy to see as they've been driven flush with the crescent-shaped hinge. The outside two are centered about 1/4" from each end of the hinge, with two more each about 1-1/4" inboard of those, centered in the spring holders.) DANGER--DON'T use an electric drill to drill out the pins as the close proximity to the fuel filler makes this an EXTREMELY DANGEROUS risk!!! Once the old hinge is removed, carefully assemble the hinge, door, and spring BEFORE securing to the car body. Clean the area of the fuel filler and remedy any rust. With the fuel door open on the hinge, line up the hinge's rivets with their respective holes and press the hinge in place with the rivet gaskets bottomed out on the sheet metal. While a helper holds the fuel door-hinge-spring assembly firmly in place, use a 1/4" drift and hammer to carefully sink the four rivet expanders flush to the hinge. Test the security of the rivets and carefully open and close the door to check alignment and flush fit of the door to the body.

How do you replace the gas tank cover on a Volvo wagon?

Buy a new plastic hinge Volvo part number 31265160. To replace the hinge, push the two center pins through using a punch. This will free up the broken hinge and you can remove it. Attach the new hinge to the door, then set the grommets into the openings and push the pins in to retain the grommet. BE CAREFUL NOT TO PUSH THE PINS TOO FAR. All they need to be is flush with the grommet.

How do you replace door hinge pins on a 89 f150?

The old door hinge pins have to be cut out with a torch on a 1989 F-150. Then, new hinge pins can be welded into place. This part might be available at an automotive salvage yard for a fraction of the cost of new hinges.

1999 suburban my driver door hinge pin bushings have different od between the the top and bottom hinge no part stores show this in there books?

There are two different sizes of bushings for each hinge. On the Top door hinge the bushing go on the body side. The smaller of the two goes on the top hinge with the shoulder of the bushing on the top side of the hinge. The Larger bushing goes on the bottom of the hinge with the shoulder of the bushing on the bottom of the hinge. On the lower hinge the bushing go on the door side of the the hinge. The larger of the bushings go on the upper side of the hinge and the smaller bushing goes on the lower side of the hinge. When you put the pins in, the pin will go from bottom to top on the upper hinge and from top to bottom on the lower hinge. The pins will need to be tapped into place with a hammer. Be careful to not break the shoulder of the bushing. There is a tool that makes reinstalling the door spring a snap. It will probably cost $40, but it will save your knuckles and a lot of time. There are a couple of companies that make repair kits for these. On is from Dorman and the other is from HELP! The kits come with a small bushing, a large bushing, a pin, and a pin retainer. The retainers will look different depending on the company. Some look just like a thin washer and other look like an E-clip. If you go to an automotive parts house and ask for bushing and pin kits for you specific outfit they should know what you are talking about.

How do you replace the driver side door hinge pins on a 1994 GMC Jimmy?

You need to disconnect the wiring to the electric window, locks, etc.,and the door has to be removed. The hardest part I think, is replacing the door spring that rides on the lower hinge; a body shop tool is needed for that.

What are door frame parts?

One part of a door frame is the molding, which is the area cut out to hold the door. The frame is the wood or steel placed inside the molding to bolster the strength of the door. The casing is the part of the door inside the frame that insulates. The hinge holds the door on and the contact plate is the area cut out to hold the bolt part of the lock.

What are the different types of hinges used in doors, and how does the design of a hinge leaf affect the overall functionality and durability of the hinge?

The main types of hinges used in doors are butt hinges, continuous hinges, and pivot hinges. The design of a hinge leaf, which is the flat metal part that attaches to the door and frame, affects the hinge's functionality and durability. A thicker and longer hinge leaf typically provides better support and durability, while a well-designed hinge leaf allows for smooth movement and proper alignment of the door.
