The Jamestown colony was a chartered one under the reign of British king James.

The colony in what is Virginia met many hardships and for a time the chief of the Native American Tribes in the area, Chief Powhatan, helped the Jamestown colonists with finding food and in other hardships as well.

The colonists were primarily interested in growing and exporting the profitable product of tobacco. Their plans required them to access more land for this plan. The land of course belonged to the Native Tribes. Conflicts arose, and people died.

The most remembered role Jamestown played was one of a conqueror of the Native Americans.
