Last weekend of January 2009. Over half an inch of sheet ice existed on average throughout the town, under 3-4 feet of snow. Roads were prioritized by the city and many residential roads were uncleared for the next couple of days, with snow so high my AWD Audi couldn't push through it just because of its ground clearance. The university got much heat for holding classes after only one day of closure, when most of their walking paths remained hazardously icy. In particular, the large disabled population of the university had issue with the conditions as wheelchairs had no traction or control whatsoever. on the icy walkways. Among others, my apartment's parking lot (I lived in an upstairs loft downtown) by the pavilion, just a block from city hall, was "not high priority" and ignored by the city despite several residents being unable to move their cars. A notice was put on the news asking residents to "stay inside" and not attempt to drive so accidents would be kept to a minimum and road clearing crews would be unimpeded by traffic.

Yes. Snow falls on the high peaks during some of the winter months.
Snow is a destructive force because if you are up in the Mountains where big chunks of snow and ice lie, an avalanche could happen any moment.
The tops of the tallest peaks in Hawaii receive snow every year. This is because it is considerably colder at these elevations since the pressure is greatly reduced. Parts of Hawaii at sea level, as most of the major cities are, have never recorded snow.
You find snow drifts mostly in open areas that has been covered or are being covered by snow. The wind blows the snow and it lands on the ground in rippled mounds quite like waves on the sea. They occur most often in light, fluffy snow, but pack down over time and are quite solid.
Generally speaking, Carbondale is not a city on the scale of having suburbs. Its population is only in the 30k's and its immediate neighbors are similarly-sized towns intermixed with smaller villages. In fact, Marion, Illinois is considered by some to be the "big city" in the area more than Carbondale, due to its interstate access and businesses. Nevertheless, many small neighborhoods that make up Makanda, IL identify with Carbondale, as well as the town of Desoto, IL. Many rural neighborhoods stretch out across the area form the equivalent of "suburbs" to towns such as Carbondale, Murphysboro, and Marion but are largely unincorporated on their own.
Illinois and Florida are both big states, so the the time varies greatly from where in ILL you leave to what part of Florida you want to get to. It takes about 12 hours to drive from Carbondale,ILL to Jackson,Fl. It takes about 24 hours to drive from Chicago to Key West.
Yes, with an asterisk. Eastern Illinois belongs to the Ohio Valley Conference which is a Division 1 conference. However, the OVC is Division 1-AA for football.

As of my last update in October 2023, I don't have real-time weather data. To find out if there is still snow in Big Bear, I recommend checking local weather reports or the official Big Bear Lake website for the most current conditions and snowfall information.
Michigan beat Illinois last week. Triple OT, 67 to 65. I think...
They first use a big plow to remove the layer of snow & rocks, then they put a layer of salt on top of the road, which will remove the last bit of snow and will also keep it snow clean for a while.
