After the Krakatau eruption in 1883, many of the survivors were relocated to nearby islands such as Java and Sumatra in Indonesia. Some sought refuge in temporary shelters and refugee camps set up by the Dutch authorities. Reconstruction efforts were slow, and some people chose to seek new opportunities in other regions.
