Where does papaya come from?

It's actual origin is totally unknown, because no one held register (in primordial ages) of where did they find for the first time a papaya tree. Researches believe that papaya trees were origined somewhere in tropical Central America, somewhere between southern Mexico and northern Central America.

Some records from 15th century indicate that papaya seeds were spread to Panama and Dominican Republic, but there isn't a record from where these seeds were taken.
