The chassis of a dryer is what you see when you look at the dryer. It is a frame work of metal that contains the rotating drum and motor assembly. When you ground a dryer it is this framework that the ground wire, from the cord, is connected to.
I am guessing that the dryer is 220-240 VAC as is the compressor. I also assume that the third wire on the dryer is a ground. You need to make sure that the metal chassis on the compressor is not connected to the two wires. You then need to create a covered junction box where you have the two existing wires and a ground wire that you connect to the compressor metal chassis with a screw type connector. Ground wire should be 10 AWG. Now you have three wires. Connect the two hot wires of supply to two original wires on compressor and ground wire to the chassis ground.
The green wire should be connected to the grounding screw on the dryer chassis. This grounding ensures the safety of the appliance and protects against electrical hazards. Be sure to follow the manufacturer's instructions for proper installation.

== == The washing machine outlet should be ground fault protected on 12-2 wire. The 30 amp dryer circuit should be on 10-3 wire with a ground. Laundry receptacle outlet for washer, 12/2 with ground yes! GFCI required if receptacle is within 6 feet of sink or duplex receptacle rather than single receptacle [but a GFCI isn't a bad idea anyway...Dryer, 10/3 with ground and 4-wire outlet and cord set connection at dryer location! NO NEUTRAL BONDING LINK!1) NEC requires a disconnecting means [plug and receptacle works] if equipment [dryer] is not within sight of the power source [in this case, if the panel is in the garage]2) You were never allowed to use the ground wire to carry neutral current, so you need an insulated white or grey neutral [this means three wire]3] You are not longer allowed to use the neutral jumper at the terminal in the dryer for a chassis ground [with certain limited exceptions - existing ungrounded three wire cable and new dryer] Ground wire goes to chassis. As always, if you are in doubt about what to do, the best advice anyone should give you is to call a licensed electrician to advise what work is needed. Before you do any work yourself,on electrical circuits, equipment or appliances, always use a test meter to ensure the circuit is, in fact, de-energized.IF YOU ARE NOT ALREADY SURE YOU CAN DO THIS JOBSAFELY AND COMPETENTLYREFER THIS WORK TO QUALIFIED PROFESSIONALS.
Depending on the connection this scenario could happen. The 240 volt heating element of a dryer is connected to the two outside terminals on the dryers terminal strip. Also in this circuit is a thermal cut out that will open the circuit should the internal mechanisms of the dryer get too hot. The motor connection and the controls of the dryer are 120 volts. This means that the voltage is obtained from one of the 240 volt legs and the neutral connection on the dryers terminal strip. This connection is in between the two outside 240 volt connection points on the terminal strip. On a four wire dryer cord the fourth wire is the ground and should go directly to the chassis lug on the dryers frame. Turn off the breaker or unplug the dryer from its receptacle and check your wiring. Red and black wires on the outside terminals on the dryers terminal strip. It makes no difference whether red is on the left or right terminal. The white (neutral) wire is on the terminal between the two red and black or black and red wires depending on how you placed them on the terminal strip. The ground wire of course will be connected to the frame of the dryer. If this is the way the connections are made inside of the dryer it should work. If any work has been done on the wall receptacle make sure that the wire on the receptacle match the wiring inside the dryer.
