Land bridge theory
it was believed that land bridges could explain the occurrence of species in separate continents and the resemblances of geologic formations on different continents. Many land bridges were criss-crossing large areas of ocean. However, when the sea bed of the Atlantic Ocean was mapped using echo sounding between 1924 and 1927, no remains of land bridges could be found. Though this was a strong argument for Alfred Wegener's theory of continental drift, it would take about 50 more years until mainstream geology fully acknowledged the motion of continents.
The land bridge between North America and Asia is called the Bering Land Bridge. It was exposed during the last ice age when sea levels were lower due to the large amount of water being locked up in glaciers. This land bridge allowed for the migration of humans and animals between the two continents.
It would be considered a peninsula if there is a land bridge connecting it to the mainland. An island is typically surrounded by water and not connected by a land bridge.

Beringia formed a land bridge between Asia and North America around 20,000 to 10,000 years ago during the last Ice Age. This land bridge allowed the migration of humans and animals between the two continents.
Early humans crossed the Bering Land Bridge from Siberia to Alaska to reach the Americas. This land bridge emerged during the last Ice Age when sea levels were lower.

Bering Strait or Beringia, something with Bering in it
The Beringa land bridge linked Asia and North America. It emerged during the Last Glacial Maximum when sea levels were lower due to the amount of water locked up in glaciers.
Asia was linked to North America by what is called Beringia, or the Bering Straight Land Bridge, about 16000 years ago, and at other earlier times. There is a link below to an article on Beringia.

land bridge
A land bridge does not separate places. A land bridge connects them.
