He was an adventurer who wanted to see if humans could live as they once did, in the Roman Empire, the Bronze Age, the Iron Age, and even the Stone Age. He went to Cordova, Alaska and lived in a shack with no tools, except for the primitive knives that he made. He later discovered that his hypothesis had failed, and set a new goal for himself. He wanted to travel 18-27 miles a day, living only out of his backpack. He never got this plan up and running though, because he was found in the shack with a knife through his heart. His death was determined as suicide.
