Raila Odinga became the second Prime Minister of Kenya on 2008 April 17, after running for president; the disputed results of the 2007 presidential election between incumbent president Mwai Kibaki and Odinga led to violence. Eventually, they agreed on a settlement to stop the violence, keeping Kibaki the president and making Odinga the Prime Minister, a position that had been abolished since 1964.
