Why do people not shrivel like slugs when you pour salt on them?

They don't exacty melt. But just like our intestines, salt makes us shrink and retain water. That's why you feel thirsty when you consume a salty snack! And why a slug wishes it were raining when you dump salt on them.

Snails contain alarge amount of water and their skin is wet and porous. Salt on one side of the skin creates an osmotic pressure which tries to dilute the salt and so water travels throught the skin membrane shrinking the snails volume

When pouring salt on a slug, the water inside the cells leave via osmosis (excretion though the cell wall) because the salt level is higher than inside the cell, and salt attracts water. In essence, a simple chemical reaction is causing the slug to die, cell by cell. This is what causes the fizzing. It is a slow and painful death.

Unlike slugs, our bodies have complex regulatory mechanisms that maintain fluid balance, preventing rapid dehydration when exposed to salt. Slugs have a much simpler physiology that cannot cope with the rapid osmotic stress caused by salt.
