Studying fungi under a microscope is useful for identifying mycological species as their physical characteristics and features can easily be identified.

These physical characteristics and features can be in the way in which the cell grows, the morphology (shape) of the cell or the type of organelles that it is made of.

From this, scientists associated with the mycology department would be able to identify and categorize unidentified fungal cells into a classification known as "taxonomy" as well as spotting the genus that it falls under. Scientists would also be able to find out what disease that particular fungus can cause - through its physical structure and from that, diagnose the patient who suffers from that disease/illness with a counteracting substance that can exterminate organelles in the fungal cell so that it becomes vulnerable to potent anti fungal medication.

Hope this answered your question.

What is silver impregnation staining?

Silver impregnation staining is a histological technique used to visualize nerve fibers, reticular fibers, and certain fungi in tissue specimens. It involves impregnating the tissue with a silver solution, which binds to the target structures, allowing them to be visualized under a microscope. This staining method is particularly useful for studying the morphology and distribution of these structures in various tissues.
