The salt outside the celery is higher than it is inside. Water will leave the celery and it will (over time) become wilted. If you put the celery into plain water, the water will move into the celery causing it to become firmer. The water will always move to where there is more salt. There is a saying that "water follows salt".

What will happen if red blood cells are transferred to seawater?

as u know, seawater is salty ,that is hypertonic.. when u place RBC in sea water it will swell and then burst.

What will happen to an egg in hypo tonic water?

In a hyptonic solution, water will move into the cells of the egg, and it will swell, and the cells will burst.

What solution that causes a cell to swell cause of osmosis?

A hypotonic solution, with a lower solute concentration compared to the inside of the cell, causes water to move into the cell via osmosis. This influx of water makes the cell swell and potentially burst if the osmotic pressure becomes too high.

Which type of cell may burst if it becomes hypotonic?

Animal cells will burst (lyse) first in a hypotonic solution because they lack a cell wall.

Why do human cells die in freshwater?

As, human cell is an animal cell. When it is placed in an hypotonic solution like freshwater,it will finally swell and burst

What would most likely happen to a unicellular organism if it was exposed to a hypotonic solution for an extended period of time?

The organism would swell and then burst.

Why does a cell placed in hypotonic solution swell?

A cell placed in a hypotonic solution will swell because the solute concentration outside the cell is lower than inside. Water will move from the solution into the cell to equalize the concentration, causing the cell to expand and potentially burst.

If an animal cell is placed in a hypotonic solution water moves into the cell causing the cell to swell and possibly burst?

Correct, in a hypotonic solution, water will move into the cell in an attempt to balance out the concentration of solutes on both sides of the cell membrane. This influx of water can cause the cell to swell and potentially burst due to the increased pressure.

What is the difference between animal and plant cell in the distilled solution?

In a distilled solution an animal cell will swell and possibly burst. In a distilled solution the cell wall of the plant cell allows the plant cell to retain its shape.

Lower concentration of solutes outside the cell than inside the cell?

Hypotonic solution. Water will move into the cell, possibly causing it to swell and burst (lyse).

A red blood cell would swell if its surrounding solution were?

Hypotonic. If the solution had a lesser salt concentration, the cell would suck in more water to even out the salt levels inside vs outside the cell in the solution... it would suck in water, which would cause it to swell up.
