Snow is colder because it is frozen rain, so it feeds off of the cold air. EX:the air outside is 34 degrees the snow is less than 32 degrees because that is water freezing point; also note that snow must be colder because, say you pick up snow it's colder than the air because, it makes your hands numb, does the air do that?

How does a cold pack melt ice?

A cold pack melts ice by absorbing heat from the ice, which lowers the temperature of the ice and causes it to melt. Cold packs typically contain ammonium nitrate or a similar substance that, when activated, undergoes an endothermic reaction, absorbing heat from the surroundings. This heat absorption creates a temperature difference, causing the ice to lose heat and transition from solid to liquid. As a result, the ice melts more quickly in the presence of the cold pack.

Ice melts with contraction in volume?

Ice actually expands as it melts, which is why a floating iceberg will raise the water level as it melts. This is because water molecules in solid ice are locked in a crystal lattice structure, which becomes more disordered and takes up more space as the ice melts into liquid water.

Why is a piece of ice more effective in cooling a drink than the same mass of cod water?

A piece of ice is more effective in cooling a drink because it has a higher specific heat capacity than cold water, meaning it can absorb more heat while melting without significantly increasing in temperature. As the ice melts, it draws heat from the drink, cooling it more efficiently than cold water, which has already reached a stable lower temperature.

Why does ice cube melts faster on a cold plate than on a warm plate?

The rate at which an ice cube melts depends on how quickly heat is transferred to it from the surroundings. I wouldn't expect much difference between the two situations, but if there is one I'd expect the one in the cup to melt more slowly. That's because the air around the cubes will get cold and the shape of the cup might trap the cold air, leaving the ice in a colder place than the room, whereas the air around the plate will be constantly moving. All this depends on the exact size and shape of the cup.

Why does ghee melts when it is heated?

Ghee melts on heating because when ghee is cold it is solid and the kinetic energy is less so the particles are situated closer and when heated the particles of matter spread and the interrmollecular force increases as the intermollecular force is more in liquids the ghee changes to liquid or melts.

How does ice keep drinks cold?

because the ice melts in your drink faster because it your contains more heat capacity than the ice

In Sweden what is the climent like?

Why aquatic species feel comfortable in cold water rather than warm water?

Fish survive better in cold water then in warm water because :- 1) Cold water has more oxygen and more oxygen means more microscopic life which means more food. 2) In Cold water there is more solubility of the carbon dioxide released by the fish

If two people are standing together one is wet one is dry which one will feel the cold the most and why?

The dry person will feel the cold more because the wet person standing next to them will try and get warm until the water evaporates onto the next person but by the time it has reached the dry person it would have been cold. so the dry person would feel the cold more! I think, the wet person will feel the cold more because water needs energy to evaporate and this energy is taken form the immediate surroundings ie the wet person, making the wet person feel cold. If you wet your finger and hold it up in the air it will feel cold because the heat to evaporate the water is coming from your finger.
