The real answer is...Its not a 1906 Liberty dollar. Its a 1986 commemorative dollar with the 8 altered. The US did not make a liberty dollar in 1906. A "s" mint mark is a circulated coin and the "p" is collectors coin. Sorry to burst your bubble!
its fake according to ebay. There was never such a dollar coin made in 1906. These are forgeries from China from what I have read.
Check that coin again, because what you're describing doesn't actually exist. There were no silver dollars minted that year, and the Walking Liberty design (on the half dollar) wasn't introduced for another decade.
its fake o silver dollars were made in 1799
The first year Trade Dollars were issued was 1873. Many wrong-date counterfeits exist. If it does have "TRADE DOLLAR" on the reverse. It is definitely a fake. If not, it's a 1872 Seated Liberty dollar that needs to be seen for an accurate value. Take it to a coin dealer.
NO it's a fake coin.
If you doubt the authenticity of any coin, take it to a coin dealer.
US or British? Post new question.
Trade Dollars were minted from 1873 to 1885. The dollar that was minted in 1872 was the Seated Liberty Dollar, if it has a (CC) mintmark and the coin is in good condition, the coin could be worth thousands. *If it says 1872, and Trade Dollar, it is a copy (fake) of a pattern coin from 1873, which used the Seated Liberty obverse and one of two "trade dollar" reverse sides. These copies are readily and cheaply available, and some do not bear the legally-required 'COPY' imprint. Most contain no silver at all.
If the coin is dated 1847 and has the motto IN GOD WE TRUST on the banner above the eagle on the reverse, it's fake. The motto was added in 1866.
I think you're probably refering to the 1986 Statue of Liberty Centennial Dollar (which has the words "Ellis Island Gateway to America" on the obverse to the left of the Statue of Liberty). The coin is worth about $13.50, whether it's the Uncirculated coin with a "P" mintmark from the Philadelphia mint or the Proof coin with the "S" mintmark from the San Francisco mint. It is 90% silver with 0.7736 troy oz ASW ("Actual Silver Weight"), meaning that the "melt value" is about $11.00 (as of December 3, 2007).
Yes, if it has the word "COPY" on it, it is a fake coin.
If you find the right coin shop, about eight dollars. Not knowing the condition (most likely you picked it out of a pocket full of change, got it at the bank, or work as a cashier and was given to you as tenure), some coin shops will by it for the metal content, silver. If it is in good enough condition, maybe more. I had a very good condition Walking Liberty $1 older than your coin, and the guy only gave me $15 for it. Good Luck?????There were no US $1 coins minted between 1905 and 1920 inclusive, so a "1906 dollar" is either from another country, a fantasy piece, a different denomination, or a fake.
