It is most likely referring to the trendy New York City neighborhood Soho.
The neighborhood gets its name from its location in realtion to Houston Street. It is "SOuth of HOuston". It is very popular with the younger, just-out-of-college crowd and new age fashion designers. Because of its popularity and ease of access to resturants, theaters, financial district, nightlife and Central Park, it is a very expensive area to live in. The average rent for a studio, one room apartment, in the neighborhood is well over $750 a month. There is a newer neighborhood called Noho, North of Houston, that is made up of the people who couldn't find or afford a place in Soho. Footnote: "Houston," the New York City street, is pronounced "house-ton." "Houston,"the city in Texas, is pronounced, "hyou-ston," as is the last name of Sam Houston, American general; president of the Republic of Texas (1836-38; 1841-44).
I believe Soho is the part of Manhattan (or Brooklyn?) south of Houston St.
The word "sohou" means 'rough/careless.'
The Soho Grand is an upscale hotel on Broadway in New York City. It is very close to art galleries and theaters and is considered a luxury destination.
SoHo/Soho. In New York City, the name SoHo is short for "South of Houston Street." According to Wikipedia, the London neighborhood of Soho is believed to have gotten its name from "a former hunting cry. The Duke of Monmouth used 'soho' as a rallying call for his men at the Battle of Sedgemoor."
