There are a couple different things that could come after a lead.

If it's primarily a feature story, the lead would begin to tell a story and not tell much information. Therefore what follows that would be your nut graph (the paragraph with the who, what, when, where, and why). And then the traditional Quote/Transition formula.


In a news story what comes next would be the next most important piece of information, or a quote.


In an editorial It would be the lead, then the nut graph and then the body of the work explaining and developing the issue.
