Though probably purchased for just fifty cents when issued, Y2K newspapers have steadily increased in value, especially when properly preserved. People are aware that a newspaper is like a time capsule of the past. Headlines, sports scores, Stock Market data all take on new perspective when viewed years and decades later.
For those who were born on January 1, 2000, the newspapers become even more attractive. Everyone enjoys reading and owning a newspaper printed the day they were born, a fine keepsake and excellent gift idea. It becomes even more meaningful when the newspaper edition is from a city of particular interest, for example where you were born, grew up, went to school, etc.
For others, the Y2K date has other meaning. Many were married this day, many were attending special parties, many celebrated the evening quietly fearful of blackouts and other catastrophy. But it's one of those dates where everyone remembers what he or she was doing, and it will always evoke memories.
What's the value of a January 1, 2000 newspaper? To some, just a dollar or two. Others would pay much more if they could just locate one. I'd gladly pay $50 for a local newspaper published the day I was born (50+ years ago).
Keep in mind that these are the only millennium newspapers ever pressed. There were no newspapers published January 1, 1000 and there certainly won't be any published on January 1, 3000...

It is an ordinal value. ----- Here's one way to see this. Suppose you start take birthday 1 January 2000 to be 1, birthday 2 January 2000 to be 2, ... , birthday 31 January 2000 to be 31, then birthday 1 February 2000 to be 32, and so on, number all of the birthdays until today, you will have a number of about 5104. If you need birthdays before 1 January 2000 you could use negative numbers. Clearly these numbers are ordered and form an ordinal scale.
