they sent threatening letters because the new machines that were invented were taking over the jobs of good skilled workers. the workers didn't want to be put out of work, this way they wouldent be able to afford the price of bread. this is why they wrote threatening letters to get the jobs back. note the word 'threatening' it is used because they threatened to destroy the new machines. the luddites wanted to sound angry because they were serious as once they were really earning good money and then as soon as the machines came they did'NT need them anymore, due to machines producing goods at mass productions.
