In Latin America the word curandero/curandera is used to refer to a shaman or spiritual healer. Brujo/Bruja is specific to "witches" as seen by the local people, so usually either as seen by the Christian Church, or by the ancient Mesoamerican civilizations, whereas curandero/a refers more to healers and has fewer negative connotations. Hechicero/a is used for witch doctors and the more sorcerous forms of witches. The word mago is used in the context of "wizard."
