No on knows what happens to the man in this story. Even at his deathbed, Frank Stockton would not tell his wife who came out of the door.

However, i have came up with my own theory that the princess chooses the tiger to kill him.

Look at the title of this story: The Lady or the Tiger

Now look at the title backwards: regit eht ro ydal eht (look at it and try to sound the words out . kind of sounds like "regret the royal", doesn't it?). Regret the royal...well why would you ever want to regret royalty? Maybe because you fall in love with it, then it turns on you. Also, the title backwards does not spell "royal" out perfectly, there is a D stuck in between the Y and A. And what about those last three letters from "the"? Well lets combine these letters: deth . Death. Death would mean that this princess would have had to choose the tiger, instead of the lady, to kill her lover.

But who knows, there are probably millions of other theories out there . That's just mine.

Who is the antagonist in the story The Lady or the Tiger?

The king is the antagonist in the story The Lady or the Tiger because he throw the young male into the area. But this depends if you're looking in the point of view that the young man is the protagonist.

Characters in the lady or the tiger?

Courtier / Lover The courtier is a young man whose love affair with the princess results in his imprisonment and trial. Though of lower birth than the princess, he is "handsome and brave to a degree unsurpassed in all this kingdom." He trusts absolutely in his power to charm the princess, and realizing that she knows what is behind each door, he opens the one she indicates "without the slightest hesitation." King The king is a "semi-barbaric" man with an implacable will. As part of the system of justice he has established in his land, the king sets up a system of choice for criminals. They must enter an arena and pick a door; the door may lead to their freedom or to a terrible death. Furious when he discovers his daughter's affair with a courtier, the king condemns the young man to the arena, taking great care to select the fiercest tiger to place behind one door and the most respectable marriage candidate from among the ladies of the court behind the other. Lady The lady is a young courtier, picked by the king to be the young man's bride, should he open the correct door. She is beautiful, charming, and known to both the courtier and the princess. The princess perceives the lady as a rival for the young man's love, and thus she is an object of the princess's hatred and jealousy. Princess The princess loves a young courtier "with an ardor that had enough of barbarism in it to make it exceedingly warm and strong." The couple is very happy together until the princess's father, the king, discovers the affair and imprisons the courtier. His punishment is to determine his own fate by selecting one of two doors in an arena. One leads to a hungry tiger, the other to a respectable young lady to whom he will be immediately wed should he open that door. The princess learns which door leads to which fate, and thus exercises godlike control over the courtier's fate.

Is the courtier fed to the lady or the tiger in The Lady or the Tiger... Please give a few pieces of evidence.?

In "The Lady or the Tiger," it is not explicitly stated whether the courtier is fed to the lady or the tiger. Evidence includes how the princess knows which door the lady is behind and her possessive nature towards the courtier, which could suggest she chose the tiger for jealousy. On the other hand, her love for the courtier could mean she directed him to the lady. Ultimately, the story leaves the ending ambiguous, allowing readers to interpret it as they wish.
