Each dictionary editor has his own team, and the Académie française does the same for its own dictionary.

The French government tries to push some words sometimes, mostly to react against the anglicization of every day French. For instance, they requested all administrations to use "mél" for "email", which really did sound stupid. "Courriel" for the same thing had a better success.

No, new French words do not necessarily need to be approved before being included in dictionaries. Once these new terms meet certain criteria, they are added to dictionaries to reflect the evolving nature of the language.

How thesaurus used in open office org?

There's no thesaurus as such. Open Office does have a massive dictionary built in - and any words not contained in the dictionary are questioned during the spell-check. The user has an option to either correct a spelling error or add new words to the dictionary. Any new words are incorporated within the OpenOffice dictionary, as opposed to being saved in a 'user dictionary'

How do you widen your vocab in french?

I would advise to read. Choose authors you like and enjoyable stories, but not too hard as you will grow weary of the effort. You can find English authors, translated in French if you like, and the translations are usually very good.I look for the new vocabulary, up in the dictionary. Most of these new words will not become part of your active vocabulary (the words you use) but only of your passive vocabulary (words you understand without looking any more at their definition, when you come across them later)For advanced learners, you can try using a French/French dictionary. That will give you an understanding of the word, but also alternative ways of expressing yourself.

Notable would be found on the dictionary page with which guide words?

It depends on your dictionary. This question is probably to see if you know how to use the dictionary. To find the answer, find the word notable in your dictionary and then you will see the guide words. The guide words are at the top of the page and show the first and last word on the page in order to guide you to your word.In my dictionary, Webster's New World College Dictionary, Fourth Edition, "notable" is on the page with the guide words "Norwegian elkhound" and "note."
