Personnally, I don't like it...but it's your kid, name him what you want. Sorry, but I think it is a horrendous name for a boy. It is condescending to call someone "Sonny". Not only that, you are exposing your kid to a life of ridicule. Every father calls his kid "Sonny" as a joke at one point or another.... and then your kid will have to spend his life explaining that, yes, "Sonny" is in fact his real legal name, not just a silly nickname. Please do your kid a favor and call him something else.... he will thank you for it later.
