how can an exercise be over-hyped? it works out a specific muscle group and if you are looking to focus on that group of muscles then its a good exercise. but you wouldnt do military presses if you were looking to improve your squat strength.

Compound exercise is the exercise which involves more than one joint and muscle group. For example squat involves the joints of knees, hip, ankle and the muscles of the upper and lower legs and buttocks.
