No. Absolutely not.
In what way? We actually have an English Setter Basset Hound mixed breed and she is fantastic and ADORABLE! She's white with black and brown "ticking" like a setter with short legs and a long body- but not quite as stout as a basset. She's very friendly and has a great temperament, just needs a lot of exercise.

We also have a English Setter Basset Hound mixed breed and she's wonderful. She's 7months healthy and beautiful. She is strong willed and requires alot of activity (long walks, outdoor play). She is great with people including children.

Well I'm partial to the Basset Hound, and Basset Hound mixes are great too.

If you want a pedigree Basset Hound from a respected breeder, you should contact the Kennel Club or look on their website to find Basset Hound breeders in your area. Never buy a puppy without seeing at least the mother and where the puppies were kept.
10-15years if you're a good care-taker
Basset hounds originate from Europe, where they were PUREBRED and used as rabbit and raccoon hunting-dogs. Now, they have been brought to North America, and are very good with children. They are not really used for hunting anymore. They make great pets!
Well basset hounds are good with kids, their ears and feet need to be frequently cleaned, they are very quiet, trips people a lot(since they're so short) and they weigh only up to about 30 pounds. While beagles are usually loud, taller than a basset hound, energetic( sometimes good sometimes bad), and have a good sense of smell. If you like huge ears, a kid friendly, and a quiet dog, you should get a basset If you like floppy ears, tallness, and a energetic dog, you should choose the beagle Hope this helped! :)
I believe the show you are referring to was titled "The People's Choice" with Jackie Cooper as "Sock" and Patricia Breslin as "Mandy". The Basset Hound was a female red and white named Cleo (and had most of the good lines). The show ran from 1955 to 1958 (in B&W) but it was in reruns after that. Hope that helps.
The life span of a Basset Hound is 8 - 12 years.
The Basset hound will do okay in an apartment. They are very inactive indoors but outdoors they will run for hours in play if given the chance. They will do okay without a yard, but should be given plenty of opportunities to run and play to keep it healthy and trim. The Pug is good for apartment life. It is relatively inactive indoors and will do okay without a yard. Either of these breeds will do fine in an apartment if taken for daily walks.
It depends on what you were doing, if its cuteness, basset, if its good with children, basset. Bassets are dogs which are cute and reliable beagles are similar but in my opinion not as cute. Bassets would win a scent trail as they were originally bred for hunting and their nose is one of the best in the dog world. If looking to by a dog I would buy a basset, although beagles would be cheaper as insurance is cheaper for them because bassets are more likely to develop joint problems.
About once a week if you bath your dog very often your dog looses his oils and that is not good for him. Unless he gets into a mud hole give him a bath once a week.
