Theres a reason they sell spare spools of line. Its easier to cut away the rats nest and pull out more line or respool the reel with new line that trying to fight that dilemma. The quality of line used on those combos isn't the greatest to begin with. Trilene 6 or 8 pound test is more than enough for that type rod and fishing conditions.

Do you need braided line to go salmon fishing?

No, you do not need it. I personally don't like it because when it gets tangled you can't untangle it and it costs you a spool of really expensive. You can use it but you need at least 3 feet of mono or fluorocarbon leader otherwise the fish will see it and won't bite. I prefer 15 pound p-line because it is stronger than what it says.
