If you notice a pair dominating and area in the aquarium around a rock or some other cover start looking for eggs, their ready to spawn. Time will be determined by the fish being mature and in optimum health.
Mine? Its fine thanks. If you do suspect that something is wrong with your convict cichlid, or if you want to learn how to take care of convict cichlids. Be sure to check the article that I posted in the related links. It helped me raise 3 sets of babies that came from 2 convict cichlids. After reading the article, I successfully raised over 100 convict cichlid babies and believe it or not, all of them are still living in the tank. Its quite a site to see that many cichlids swimming together in a fish tank. But be warned - when convict cichlids are breeding, they get very aggressive. Especially toward any other kind of fish.
Generally, cichlid eggs such as those laid by convicts hatch in three to five days. Convicts are relatively easy fish to breed.
anywhere from a couple of days to a couple of weeks it really depends on what africans your talking about.

A cichlid can not produce young by itself. The moving of rocks and substrata is common behaviour amongst cichlids and does not neccessarilly indicate that spawning is imminent. Cichlids preparing to spawn will move things around until they are satisfied with the result. There is no time limit on this behaviour.

They don't lay eggs.
Oh, at least six-eight months, I think. Depending on how well fed they are. Convict fish are very good parents!
8-9 days...
At least 5min. That's how long it took my umbreon and ditto to have eggs.
