I am just going to put it out there before going into explanation. No. For most of the time your body is stagnant, just waiting for the fish to nibble. Unless, if you were fly fishing, where your body moves a lot to try to snag a fish. However, in rest position, your body burns around one or two calories per minute (depending on your metabolism). This does not add up to a lot. It is almost the equivalent of sitting on the couch and watching T.V. all day. My suggestion is to run, walk or jog for cardio and then throw in some weights if you are above 15. Alternate your schedule and you will reach your body's fullest potential.
